Port of Tacoma - Confined Disposal Facility Project -Stage 1 Containment Berm

The Port of Tacoma Slip 1, was converted to a Nearshore Confined Disposal Facility in November 2003. JJM constructed a containment berm across the mouth of Slip 1 in order to create an enclosed basin for the placement of the dredge sediments.
This unique project involved the movement of 370,000 yd3 of material. On-site construction operations had to be coordinated to provide uninterrupted vessel traffic through the Waterway at all times. A water quality-monitoring program was also implemented to ensure construction activities were performed in such a manner as to ensure minimal environmental impacts.

The project involved the removal of approximately 65,000 m3 of contaminated marine material.
Upon removal of the contaminated marine material, dewatering was performed on a JJM barge utilizing a custom designed and built filtration system.
