Port
of Tacoma - Confined Disposal Facility Project -Stage 1
Containment Berm
The Port of Tacoma Slip 1, was converted to a Nearshore
Confined Disposal Facility in November 2003. JJM constructed
a containment berm across the mouth of Slip 1 in order to
create an enclosed basin for the placement of the dredge
sediments.
This
unique project involved the movement of 370,000 yd3 of material.
On-site construction operations had to be coordinated to
provide uninterrupted vessel traffic through the Waterway
at all times. A water quality-monitoring program was also
implemented to ensure construction activities were performed
in such a manner as to ensure minimal environmental impacts. |
