JJM replaced existing culverts under the BC Rail Port Subdivision Rail Line at two locations in Delta; at the 72 Street and Monastery Ditch crossings. The new 22 m long by 1800 mm diameter steel pipe culverts were installed using trenchless construction methods, supplementing an existing 1200 mm steel CSP at 72 Street, and replacing an existing 900 mm diameter steel CSP at Monastery Ditch.

The ditches served by the culverts are part of the Delta farm irrigation system, as such, construction had to be carried out to avoid impacting the flow of irrigation water and could not cause damage to, or delays on, the BC Rail track.

JJM provided site preparation, excavation, pumping and shoring services. JJM’s qualified subcontractor for the project, Kamloops Augering, was used to perform the pipe jacking through the embankment after JJM had constructed jacking pits and dewatered the site. Rip rap head wall installation and site restoration completed the work.

JJM successfully completed the project on time and on budget.
