Dolphins Replacement – Roberts Bank

Client:
BC Hydro
Location:
Tsawwassen, BC

JJM Construction Ltd. was selected to construct three submarine cable marker dolphins at Roberts Bank in Tsawwassen. The dolphins identify to marine traffic, the public and the marine community the boundary location of the BC Hydro submarine transmission cable corridors.

Each dolphin is a steel structure embedded deep into the sea-bed equipped with an integrated weatherproof visible light and “No Mooring” signs. The dolphins have been designed to Transport Canada requirements and for
safety, minimizing access and to be maintained over a 40 year life.

The BC Hydro submarine transmission cables were energized (300kV DC) live at all times this work was performed. Work included layout, pile driving to tight tolerances, steel fabrication, welding and coating.
