The Opportunity
JJM Construction is looking for a Skilled Labourer to join the team at various projects in the lower mainland, BC.
Responsibilities
The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the essential functions, while providing the highest quality construction services and products safely, effectively and efficiently to ensure JJM Construction’s principle of “Building to Last” endures for future generations.
- Responsible to prepare and clean construction sites.
- Load and unload construction materials.
- Move materials to various work areas.
- Assist heavy equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment.
- Communicate effectively with equipment operators via hand signals and radio communications while guiding/directing moving equipment.
- High degree of awareness of all site conditions and mobile equipment operation.
- Provide manual labour to support pipe crews.
- Perform other site duties or functions, consistent with status or vocational ability as may be required from time to time.
- Ensure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public.
- Represent JJM to the public in a manner that is consistent with corporate values and goals.
- Lead by example.
Operational Performance and Best Practices
- Hand work and shovel work related to grading operations.
- Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other tools or small equipment.
- Operate hand tools, pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers, as directed.
- Tend to/feed equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps.
- Return all tools (clean) back to the proper area after the job is complete or at the end of the shift.
- Review all safe work practices and procedures associated with the job prior to ask execution.
- Carry out work in a manner that will not jeopardize own/others safety.
- Communicate effectively with crew via hand signals and radio communications (when applicable).
- Wear, and participate in the ongoing training of, the required PPE for the position.
Qualifications
JJM Construction Ltd. is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace with safety as a primary consideration in all we do.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience on a construction site.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Competent with grinders and needle guns and able to work with minimal supervision, once the tasks have been explained and designated.
- Physically fit, with excellent stamina and the ability to perform hard manual labour.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (per company insurance requirements).
- CSTS-09 certificate (or CSTS-2020 or SiteReadyBC certificates as equivalent).
- WHIMIS-2015 certificate (valid within 3-years).
- H2S Alive, Confined Space Entry & Rescue, Standard First Aid (OFA Level 1) and WHMIS are an asset.
