The Opportunity
JJM Construction is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join the team in Delta BC.
Responsibilities
The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the essential functions, while providing the highest quality construction services and products safely, effectively and efficiently to ensure JJM Construction’s principle of “Building to Last” endures for future generations.
- Responsible for performing major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of heavy duty equipment and vehicles used at construction sites
- Repair and maintain equipment, hydraulic systems and electrical diagnosis in accordance with company and federal regulations.
- Responsible for operating heavy equipment at construction sites in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
- Perform maintenance on equipment according to owner, manufacturer and federal specifications, including changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.
- Prepare inspection, maintenance, work reports and record details on prescribed forms and log books in accordance with established company procedures.
- Heavy equipment operated at JJM include, but are not limited to, compactors, dozers, excavators, front-end loaders, graders and rock trucks.
- Perform other site duties or functions, consistent with status or vocational ability as may be required from time to time.
- Ensure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public.
- Represent JJM to the public in a manner that is consistent with corporate values and goals.
- Lead by example.
Operational Performance and Best Practices
- Diagnose diesel/ gas engine, electrical, hydraulic, driveline malfunctions and making required repairs.
- Inspect all equipment to be repaired for defects and malfunctions.
- Operate all equipment to be repaired for testing and movement to and from shop.
- Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other repair tools and equipment.
- Clean, lubricate and maintain all equipment, as scheduled and required.
- Operate hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Repair and service various equipment attachments.
- Communicate effectively with crew via hand signals and radio communications (when applicable).
- Wear, and participate in the ongoing training of, the required PPE for the position.
Qualifications

- Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic trade certification.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a related field.
- Prior experience with Caterpillar, Hitachi and Manitowoc equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (per company insurance requirements).
- CSTS-09 certificate (or CSTS-2020 or SiteReadyBC certificates as equivalent).
- WHIMIS-2015 certificate (valid within 3-years).
