The Opportunity

JJM Construction is looking for a Mobile Crane Operator to join the team at various projects in the lower mainland, BC.

Responsibilities

The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the essential functions, while providing the highest quality construction services and products safely, effectively and efficiently to ensure JJM Construction’s principle of “Building to Last” endures for future generations.

  • Operate cranes to lift, move or place equipment and materials at construction sites in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
  • Inspect cranes and calculate crane capacities.
  • Assist the equipment division in assembly of cranes on site and must assist mechanical staff in the maintenance of the cranes while performing other site duties as assigned.
  • Operate hydraulic rough terrain, friction crawler and pedestal cranes ranging from 60 ton – 175 ton.
  • Experience with dredging, pile driving and general marine construction.
  • Lead by example.

Operational Performance and Best Practices

  • Operate cranes to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials.
  • Operate and assemble cranes according to owner and manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform pre-operational inspection/ preventative maintenance on equipment according to owner and manufacturer specifications.
  • Report defects or needed repairs immediately to supervisor.
  • Record all details of inspections, maintenance and other work done on the crane while in the field in the machine’s log book.
  • Perform safe lifting and according to the written lift plan prepared and communicated for each lift.
  • Calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting for every possible configuration of the machine.
  • Read and understand load charts and operate cranes within the charted capacities of the crane.
  • Communicate effectively with crew via hand signals and radio communications.
  • Ensure awareness of all site conditions that could affect crane operation (i.e. overhead power lines, workers, mobile equipment, pedestrians, etc.).
  • Wear, and participate in the ongoing training of, the required PPE for the position.

Qualifications

JJM Construction Ltd. is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace with safety as a primary consideration in all we do.

  • Must be registered with the BC Association for Crane Safety (BCACS).
  • Possess valid crane certification (Level A or B, or Provincial Red Seal equivalent). All crane operators must have the appropriate crane type credential issued by the ITA or Fulford CraneSafe.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ mobile crane operating experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in marine construction, dredge and pile driving experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (per company insurance requirements).
  • CSTS-09 certificate (or CSTS-2020 or SiteReadyBC certificates as equivalent).

  • Strictly adhere to the JJM Construction OHS Manual.
  • Follow JJM Construction safe work practices and safe job procedures.
  • Follow the BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, specifically, Parts 14 & 15.
  • Ensure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public.
